Mr. Karthikeyan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
This is a Major Trauma Centre in England.
He undertook his Higher Specialist training in Trauma & Orthopaedics at the West Midlands Orthopaedic training Programme through Birmingham.
During his training, he passed the intercollegiate Board of the Royal College of Surgeons exam and obtained the FRCS in Trauma & Orthopaedics in 2008.
He obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics in October 2010.
Having obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics, he further undertook two training fellowships in the area of sub speciality interest.
The first of these was a one year prestigious Cavendish Fellowship in Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Revision Surgery at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. The second was a Pelvic and Acetabular Trauma Fellowship in Birmingham.
On successful completion of fellowship training, he was appointed as a Locum Consultant in Trauma Orthopaedics in March 2012 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and then subsequently appointed as a Substantive Permanent Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics in the from June 2013.
His area of expertise includes Total Hip Arthroplasty, Pelvic and Acetabular Fracture treatment, Periprosthetic fractures treatment around the hip and knee and Complex Lower limb Trauma treatment.
He provides a tertiary service for Pelvic and Acetabular Fracture Service for the West Midlands region and is one of the only two surgeons who provide this service in Birmingham.
He has an ardent interest in Medical Education and holds a Post Graduate Certificate in education for Health Professionals.
He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham in the school of Medical Sciences. All Joint Replacements performed by the surgeon are included in the National Joint Registry and he is currently the Departmental Lead for QEHB for the National Joint Registry
